Wilbur Charles Nicol — October 03, 1920 – April 27, 2018

Wilbur Charles Nicol, 97, of Shannon, IL, died Friday, April 27, 2018 at Presence St. Joseph Center in Freeport, IL. Wilbur was born October 3, 1920 in Arenzville, IL, the eldest child of the late Albert and Ida Nicol. He graduated from Arenzville High School and attended 3 semesters at University of Illinois. He married Frances Wilson on December 8, 1940. She died on November 6, 1992. He later married Vivian Kromm on November 23, 1996. She died on October 29, 2014. Wilbur was drafted into the Navy during WWII. He had worked with his father in the Nicol Sand Co. at Arenzville and Savanna, IL, tried dairy farming for 6 years, then owned Shan Agra Service in Shannon for 35 years. Wilbur served as teacher and elder at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Freeport, IL. He was a longtime member of Shannon Lions Club and served on Village Board. He enjoyed baseball, golfing, petunias, and fishing.

Wilbur in survived by his sons, Kirby Nicol of Capitola, CA and Jan (Marge) Nicol of Shannon, IL; Joyce (Jon) Dinges of Mendota, IL, Jean (Barry) Meyers of Lake Carroll, IL, Leroy (Nancy) Kromm of Santa Clara, CA, and Linda Kromm of Shannon, IL; grandchildren, Kim Nicol of San Francisco, CA, Keith (Michelle) Nicol of Los Gatos, CA, Stephanie (John) Rafferty of Noblesville, IN, Stacey (Paul) Lidtke of Oshkosh, WI, Chris (Jacy) Swalve of Los Gatos, CA, Ross (Kim Johnson) Swalve of Scotts Valley, CA and Lance Swalve of Bensenville, IL; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, Muriel Buck and Shirley Ritchie both of Savanna, IL; sisters-in-law, Clarice Nicol of Cedarburg, WI, and Joyce Dawn Nicol of Dayton, OR, and brother-in-law, Darwin Goss of Warsaw, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, daughter Susan, brothers Lee, Albert, and Dwight, and sister Joyce Goss.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, May 7, 2018 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Freeport, IL at 10:00 a.m. There will be a visitation on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Hermann Funeral Home in Shannon, IL from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Interment will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Freeport, IL.a
