Vivian M. Gilman, age 94, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017, at Mercy Medical Center, Clinton, Iowa. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 11, 2017, at the First United Methodist Church, Savanna, with Pastor Joey Garcea officiating.  There will be a memorial visitation one hour prior to the service from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Sunday, June 11, 2017 at the Church. Inurnment will take place in Savanna Township Cemetery. Memorials may be given in her memory to the charity of your choice.

Vivian was born June 29, 1922, in Maquoketa, Iowa, the daughter of John and Frances (Tracy) Miller. She attended Maquoketa High School and graduated with the Class of 1940. On November 5, 1949, Vivian married Ralph “Jerry” Gilman in Savanna. They celebrated 47 years of marriage before Jerry passed away in 1997.

Vivian was employed at the Eaton Corporation in Savanna for 14 years. She was a member of the Disabled American Veteran’s Auxiliary and the Savanna First United Methodist Church where she was active in the Methodist Women and also taught Bible School for several years.  She enjoyed reading, baking, gardening, canning, and dancing with Jerry.

Vivian will be dearly missed by her three children, Sue Maline of San Tan Valley, Arizona, Patti Thulen of Savanna, Illinois, and Amy Nebrick of Davenport, Iowa; four grandchildren, Timothy Thulen, Courtney (Cory) Robson, Carrie Parker, and Christopher Nortunen; five great-grandchildren, Caylee, Emma, Wyatt, Mia and Cyric; a sister-in-law, Rita Gilman of Savanna, and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; two sisters, Juanita and Jennie; three brothers, Bill, Jack and Earl; a great-grandson, Collin; and a nephew, Christopher.
