Floyd Griffy

October 02, 1947 – May 26, 2017 Floyd Griffy, age 69, of Thomson, Illinois, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017 in Houston, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Lower York Cemetery in Thomson, Illinois. Following the graveside service, a Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. at the Tipton Auction House in Thomson. Floyd was born October 2, 1947 the son of James Leroy and Helen (Mason-Mascher) Griffy in Effingham, Illinois. He attended Newton High School and graduated with the Class of 1965. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Southern Illinois University of Carbondale. Floyd furthered his education with his Master’s Degree in Education from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. Floyd married the love of his life Kathy Eslinger on June 20, 1970. Floyd taught music for grades 5 thru 12 from 1969 – 1991 Thomson Schools. Floyd later took over Griffy Jewelry Stores in Olney, Illinois and Newton, Illinois until retiring in 2016. Floyd was a member of the Thomson American Legion Post Donald Ashpole #1025 in Thomson, the Olney Petroleum Club, the Onley Elks and the Newton Masonic Lodge #216. James “Jim” Lawson

June 27, 1925 – May 29, 2017 James “Jim” Lawson, age 91, passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 in Davenport, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 11:00 to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, June 3, 2017, at the church prior to the service. A memorial fund has been established in Jim’s memory. Jim was born on June 27, 1925, the son of Milton and Ruth Lawson in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He attended Milan High School in Milan, Michigan, and graduated with the Class of 1943.  Jim proudly served his country in the United States Army from January 1, 1944 to December 25, 1945. He was stationed in England from July 1944 until August 1945, where he worked as a medical assistant at a field hospital aid station. After his military service, Jim returned to the U.S. and began attending Michigan State University where he received his Bachelor’s Degree in Agriculture in 1950. On September 10, 1953, Jim married Margaret Bert in Monroe, Michigan. They celebrated 58 years of marriage before Margaret passed away in October 2011. Ronald “Bud” Bull

June 02, 1930 – June 01, 2017 Ronald L. Bull, 86 of Savanna, Illinois died Thursday, June 1, 2017 at Windsor Manor, Morrison, Ill. His family surrounded him as he passed into his eternal home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will take place in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson, Illinois. Visitation will take place from 12:00 to 2:00 prior to the service at the funeral home. Ronald “Bud” Bull was born June 2, 1930 in Morrison, Ill., the son of Hank and Myrtle Young. He attended York Community School in Thomson. Bud married Rita M. Wolfe on January 20, 1951 in Savanna, Illinois.  Rita died on March 12, 2015.Prior to serving in the United States Army, Ronald “Bud” worked at Philips Service Station in Thomson. Upon his return from serving his country Bud began his career at Interstate Power Company for 38 years. While maintaining this full time job he also was a farmer and owned and operated Farm & Town Real Estate Agency. Ronald “Bud”, was a member of the Savanna Moose Lodge. April 28, 1931 – May 21, 2017 Myrtle Jean “Toody” Henneman, age 86, of Lanark, Illinois passed to her heavenly home May 21, 2017 at home with her loving family at her bedside. A celebration of her passing into eternal life will be held May 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Laurel Street Community Church, Freeport, Illinois with Pastor Dennis Jarrard officiating. Visitation will be held May 25, 2017 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, Illinois from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. A private burial service will be held at the Lanark Cemetery with family only. Memorials may be given to the Laurel St. Community Church. Toody was born April 28, 1931 at home in rural Stanley, Wisconsin to Frank E. Mohr and Myrtle (Abrams) Mohr. Toody was the youngest of 10 children. When Toody was born she was very small and her mother said she was little as a Toody and the nickname stuck with her. After all her brothers and sisters were raised on the farm, Toody’s parents moved into town where they ran a grocery store. Toody practically was raised in the store. December 22, 1967 – May 12, 2017 VALISSA L. BEARSLEY, 49, of Savanna, IL, died Friday, May 12, 2017 at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, IA. Valissa was born December 22, 1967 in Savanna, IL, to Larry G. and Jean Lou (Woodyatt) Bearsley. She was educated in the Savanna schools. Valissa was a woman of many trades and talents and had worked as cook at Bootlegger Too and a bartender at C J’s, both in Savanna, and more recently as house painter, and landscaper.  She was a talented artist and loved to draw, paint and dance. She had a friendly, outgoing personality, and her heart of gold made her many wonderful friends. Survivors include one daughter, Demi Hess of Mt. Carroll, IL; one son, John Krughel III of Davenport, IA; four sisters, Sonya Alden of Rock Falls, IL, Michelle (Scott) Miller of Hanover, IL, Kris (Larry) Specht of Tampico, IL and Polly Klitz of Savanna; three brothers, Steve (Kathy) Bearsley of Albany, IL, Brett (Terri) Bearsley and Kerry Klitz, both of Savanna; many nieces and nephews.
