Mount Carroll makes history with historical monument

On a hot June 17, the Mount Carroll Sesquicentennial Committee produced a re-dedication ceremony for the 1892 Civil War Monument in the Courthouse Square with Ulysses S. Grant, five other generals, ladies dressed in Civil War era garb, and a drummer for added effect. Did you know that Carroll County’s monument is listed in the Guinness Book of World Records and why? There’s more information than you might guess surrounding the monument and courthouse! The ceremony lasted about 45 minutes and was replete with a good deal of local history. The video here doesn’t do justice to the splendid...

Galatians 5:13 & 2 Corinthians 5:14

Pastor Steve Cassell BelovedChurchIllinois.com Beloved Church Page Galatians 5:13 For, brethren, ye have been called unto liberty; only [use] not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. This is your calling, my dear Beloved! Your calling is to freedom and this freedom is bought and paid for in the atonement of our Lord Jesus Christ. Find your unclaimed property with I-Cash at Old Settlers Days

RiverReader.org staff LANARK — Old Settlers Days visitors can stop at the Lanark Public Library, 111 South Broad St., from 10 a.m. to 12 noon on Saturday, June 24 to check to see if they have unclaimed property. Bonnie Jefferson will be in the library lobby to aid in your search for unclaimed money from Illinois’s I-Cash program. The treasurer’s office is safeguarding more than $2.5 billion in unclaimed property belonging to millions of Illinois residents. One in four Illinois adults discovers property to claim. Formerly called Cash Dash, the unclaimed property program was re-named I-Cash in 2012. The law that created the unclaimed property program was established in the early 1960s as a consumer protection initiative. Almost everybody knows somebody with unclaimed assets: One in eight Illinois residents has an asset to be claimed in I-Cash. Assets include everything from stocks and CDs, to safe deposit boxes and valuables. The names of 780,000 additional residents were added to the public web database after the state recently double-checked claims from years 1976 to 1992 – a time period before a computer-system upgrade streamlined the database’s maintenance. For more information, contact Janie Dollinger, director of the Lanark Public Library, at lanarklibrary1@gmail.com or call 815-493-2166....
