City’s TIF Funding Helps to Create a Colorful Business Atmosphere

LANARK — Funding for Lanark’s first Tax Increment Finance District Facade Improvement project has made quit a stir in downtown Lanark — quite a lot of stirring — of multiple cans of paint in a rainbow of colors.
Lanark Food Center owner Tushar Patel is extremely pleased with the final result of his store’s new multi-colored coat of paint, and thankful for the support of the community.
Patel and his wife, Prina, have two children, Ashu, 5 and Navya, 9 months. They purchased the grocery store from Ken Patel in 2009 (no relation), who bought the business from Bill and Leigh Ann Piper 10 months prior. Since then, the store has been improved inside and out, with new coolers and freezers installed in 2014.
“The new equipment has helped our business a lot. Much better for our customers! If we hadn’t installed the new coolers, I think our competition would have held the upper hand,” Patel said.
He said the new awning on the front of the store, and the new lighted sign, “is like a billboard advertising our merchandise, which will continue to attract customers.”
“They were both great, helping us select the beautiful colors,” he said.
“To our customers and the community, a huge thank you. We are so lucky to have your support. I believe that the new store front adds charm to our historic downtown atmosphere.
“Taking pride in our city is what matters as we continue to make Lanark a great place to live.”
