Can you explain why I need to register to comment?

Our readers often lament incivility among some commenters. They say a hostile atmosphere not only keeps them from commenting, but it can keep them from spending time reading our stories. We believe a commenting platform for our readers—our most loyal and presumably most frequent readers–will create a well-lit environment for robust discussions on the news and issues of the day.

If the comments are so out of control, why don’t you just get rid of them?

While some websites have moved in that direction, we’re eager to make commenting work and depend on you for that.

I submitted a comment. Why hasn’t it been posted yet?

We moderate all comments and get them published as soon as possible in order to keep a healthy space for not only youngsters but others as well.

How do I report an inappropriate comment?

Please send an email to with a copy of the comment and a title of the page it was posted.

What happens when I report a comment?

We appreciate you letting us know there’s an issue worthy of our attention. Reported comments will be addressed by our moderators, who will decide if any action needs to be taken. Not all comments that are reported will be removed, and we thank you for understanding.

Why hasn’t the comment I reported been removed?

If a comment you reported is still visible, it’s either because a moderator hasn’t gotten to it yet or because it was determined not to have violated our terms of service.

I’ve been banned. Why?

If your comments show a pattern of incivility, inappropriate language or other violations of our community guidelines or terms of service, we may revoke your commenting privileges.
