MOUNT CARROLL — Reports have been received about a new scam which is targeting Verizon Wireless customers.

Telephone calls are being received from people who claim to be from Verizon Wireless. These scammers will “inform” you that a required update was not done to your cell phone, and that cell service will be suspended if an update is not done.

They will then offer to assist you with the update over the phone. While speaking with them, they will send a code to your phone. They will then ask you to confirm that code with them. Once you confirm that code they will tell you that the update has been done successfully. They now have access to your account and will make purchases on your account.

If you receive this telephone call, DO NOT provide them with ANY information. If you receive this telephone call and you are a Verizon customer, hang up, contact Verizon and have them check your account. Verizon is aware of this problem.
