Sanchez New Savanna Mayor Pro Tem; Purdom Resigns

BY MICHAEL MILLER Savanna — The City of Savanna has a new Mayor Pro Tem, and is down one member, after the events of the October 9, 2018 regular meeting at city hall. The council accepted with regret the resignation of member Sara DeSpain Purdom, who is stepping down due to a relocation out of Ward 3. No replacement has yet been selected. Due to Purdom’s resignation, two spots on city committees (the Ordinance/Public Relations and Personnel Committees) and the council voted to table these replacements till a later date. Purdom also functioned as the city’s Mayor Pro Tem, and the council voted, after a recommendation by Lain, to have Pat Sanchez fill that slot. Purdom will remain on the Hotel/Motel Committee, as non-council members are allowed to serve there. During a review of city department reports, Alderman Roger Husband asked Police Chief Kevin Dimmick for further details about an accident involving a city squad car. Dimmick said that a squad driven by Lieutenant Nicholas Meeker was damaged while Meeker was responding to a call. He said that Meeker sustained minor injuries, and that the vehicle would be examined further but, in his estimation, it was likely totaled. The accident, he added, occurred during a period of heavy rain, and is still under investigation. September 14, 2018 SAVANNA — A 78-year old female who was hit by a vehicle backing out of Manny’s Pizza in Savanna, Illinois on September 13, 2018, has been identified as Judy Kness, the owner of Kness Trucking in Chadwick, Illinois.
