Election Results Surprise Some in Carroll County

Carroll County Votes Republican 60% of the Time Every single state office that was up for election went to Republicans, in Carroll County. The state as a whole did not go Republican. In fact, every single state office is now held by Democrats, including JB Pritzer, multi-billionaire from Chicago and Kwame Raoul. Savanna Stop Light Malfunctions, Creates Frustration

The stop light in Savanna has been causing headaches and frustration for many who live in or travel through Savanna. A sensor at the light has been malfunctioning, so IDOT put it on a timer. On Tuesday afternoon, October 30, 2018, Mayor Lain reached out to Savanna residents, via Facebook, to address the issues they are coming to him about, and to give them an update on what is being done. “I spoke with...

Savanna City Council Hires New Officer, Manny’s Asks for Help Receiving TIF Funds

BY MICHAEL MILLER SAVANNA POLICE DEPARTMENT HIRES NEW OFFICER, CODY TAPLIN SAVANNA, IL — The City of Savanna’s police department will have a full squad, with the addition of a new officer approved at the council’s October 23rd meeting at city hall. Savanna Police Chief Kevin Dimmick announced that after a testing and interview process, the department nominated Cody Taplin for the city’s open full-time position on the squad. Taplin is a 21-year-old native of Savanna who has worked in the railroad industry but has chosen law enforcement as his field of interest, Dimmick said.  Lain said that after going through a training program with the force, Taplin will attend policy academy in February of 2019.  Dimmick said that officers who go through this process have their training paid for and in return are obligated to stay with the force for at least two years. “I’m a fan of the fact that he’ll be here for a little while working in the department before we make this other huge investment, if it’s something that’s not suited, which I think it will be,” Lain said. “Until he goes to the academy, he can’t be by himself,” Dimmick explaining the training that Taplin will receive and his role for now. He will familiarize himself with the daily operations of the force during ride time with the other officers. The full council approved...
