Anita L. Fox
Anita of Riverside, CA and Villa Park, IL passed away October 11, 2018. Anita was born November 30th, 1966 in Freeport, IL. Anita was Baptized and Confirmed in faith at Trinity Lutheran Church, Mt. Carroll, IL. Anita grew up in IL, attending kindergarten through High School in Lanark. She earned a BS in Psychology from Bradley University. Then she earned a teaching credential in Special Education from Western Illinois University. Anita then taught Special Education for ten years at Montmorency Elementary School in Rock Falls, IL. Starting in 2001, Anita taught Special Education for Corona Norco Unified School District. Anita started at Letha Raney Intermediate School and later moved to El Cerrito Middle School, when it opened in 2003. Anita LOVED teaching and the El Cerrito fellow staff members. Anita had an enduring passion to advocate for her students. While teaching at El Cerrito, Anita attended Point Loma of the Nazarene University in San Diego completing a Master’s degree in School Administration.
Anita enjoyed having homes in both states, but spent most of her time enjoying the warm weather and her pool after school each day in Riverside. Late December, Anita was diagnosed with advanced incurable liver cancer, a rare form affecting only 300 people nationally per year. She immediately started doctoring with Dr. Adam P. Sawatsky (her internist of many years) at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN. In the Villa Park area, she had a family friend—Dr. Srilata Gundala, a brilliant Oncologist. Renowned Dr. Steven Robinson from Mayo Clinic (specialist in this rare cancerAngiosarcoma) made treatment plans and her friend Dr. Gundala coordinated and treated Anita locally avoiding Anita having to stay in Rochester. Thanks to Dr. Gundala and Dr. Robinson, Anita’s original timeline of three months was lengthened to 10 months. In addition, the family would also like to thank—Jen, Mercedes, Ericka, Susan and Sean of the Glenoaks Cancer Center as well as the wonderful nurses of Glenoaks, Anita’s lab buddy Sangita, and Dr. Udani.
Anita fully enjoyed her pool, traveling, tour guiding IL friends around Southern CA, trying local and unique restaurants, collecting Cub memorabilia, M&M collectables, a deep passion for entertainment—TV, Movies, Concerts and her season tickets for Theater. Anita traveled much to see concerts and Theater, the furthest being London for a musical not in the US. Last summer, Anita was in NYC for Front Row closing night of Glen Close in Sunset Boulevard, and even while undergoing treatment this Spring made six theater events in Chicago. She often joked, the scan results did not taint Hamilton—they came the day after.
Anita is survived by her brother Flynn of Riverside and Villa Park, many cousins, and many many friends. She enjoyed visiting with them all very much. She was predeceased by her parents Floren Forest Fox and Agnes Amling Fox, her grandparents Floren and Nancy (Taggart) Fox, aunt Shirley Lego, grandparents Rudolph and Agnes (Kuhlmann) Amling, and aunt Velma Grace Amling.
