Message of the Month

Three Part Man

May 2017

This month I feel it is very important to discuss one of the foundational truths to a successful Christian life. This truth has opened the Word of God to me in a way that few other revelations have. I simply believe that if one has not this understanding then the revelations of “The New Birth” are going to be elusive at best. There are enormous and powerful promises that are included in the “New Creation” that very few christians believe, let alone apply and LIVE in.

Here is what I intend to accomplish in this teaching:

  1. Knowledge about the three part being
  2. What is the difference in each part
  3. What is the heart
  4. How does this affect my relationship with God

Therefore we will start with our foundation text:

“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

1 Thessalonians 5:23

“whole spirit AND soul AND body….”. This confirms (along with many other scriptures) the three parts of man. Please in your personal devotion time, study this out and find out how almost the entirety of the New Testament, especially the Pauline epistles, takes this knowledge for granted. They assume that the ones receiving these letters know and are established in this understanding. It is hard for me to imagine that a great number of Christians do not know, nor have even noticed the need to understand the three parts of mankind. It would be hard to imagine except that I was one of them. Go figure… The freedom and depths of peace that I now have with my Father are so beautiful and important to me that I almost do not know how I functioned as a Christian before this revelation.

Defining the parts:

Soul – mind, will and emotions. Usually called personality. This is the mental area in which you interact with the world around you. This is your intellect and memory. Most importantly this is where you concentrate on, “meditate” or process the world around you. This is how you make the decisions on Who, What, When, Where and Why. The best example I can use is a computer. When your born you have little or no understanding of your processes, but as you grow-up you start to program your self on knowledge and experience. You simply tell your mind that 2+2=4 and that becomes an established fact to you. The problem is, in this world, the programming is not always correct. In fact, most of the time it is actually death in disguise. Another example; Pain (you are hurt by someone, physically or emotionally) + Time (you think about it) = Hatred (Jesus called this murder). The stupid Devil will take great advantage in this arena because James 3:16 says “For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.” If there is confusion or evil working in your life then… Another incredible fact is that you can re-program your mind. This is biblically referred to as “renewing” your mind. Romans 12:2 says it like this, “And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” This, I believe, is the “job” of every born again man, woman and child. We should be renewing “re-programming” our minds to God’s truths every moment of everyday. There are obviously more complexities than this to the human soul, but I think we have a basic working definition for now.

Body – flesh, internal operations and functions. This is the part that we are probably most familiar with. “I know that guy like the back of my hand…” This body knowledge is based on the fact that we are getting “training” (nerve endings sending our brain signals) millions of times a second, all day, everyday. We can see, touch, taste, smell and hear with this body. These are the stimuli that we have been told our whole lives are “reality”. This is the scientifically proven world around us that, before we knew the truth about the things of God, contained everything that we physically interacted with. Thank you Jesus for the truth that has made us free! We do not have to be confined to the limitations of this physical world. If fact, you better hope the bible is the real truth and reality otherwise your eternity will be a huge disappointment! This natural world was actually created by the spirit world (Hebrews 11:3 – “Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” God’s word empowered by faith created this physical world. A spirit (God – John 4:24 – “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”) created the physical. Yet for some reason we think that the “real” stuff is what we can measure with our five senses. My how we have been grossly and systematically lied to, over and over again. Beloved, the reality of our existence lies in the spiritual truths spoken and written to us by God’s holy prophets. We do not have to be dominated and controlled by this natural “sense” world. This is exactly what Jesus was expounding on in John 17:14-17 “I have given them thy word; and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil. They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world. Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.” There is only one truth… The Holy Word of God! When you start seeing the world through God’s eyes you will start to get God’s results. Change your perception and change your life!

Spirit – This is the new part according to 2 Corinthians 5:17. This is the REAL you. Praise Jesus for his wonderful and miraculous atonement for you and I! This is where the New Creation from God takes place immediately. This is the part that was “born again” in 1 Peter 2:23 “Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.” That word incorruptible is a fantastic word. It simply means that the fruit that was produced (salvation in your spirit man) cannot be tainted, poisoned, or corrupted by the world. That is awesome! My spirit man, the real me, cannot be changed by this present evil world! Hallelujah! We were “sealed” by the Holy Spirit of promise in Ephesians 1:13 “In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,” When you “seal” something you make it untouchable by the outside elements. That is awesome! This is the part made righteous according to 2 Corinthians 5:21 “For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.” That is how we are THE righteousness of God. God created (or re-created) us that way. This is why we have open and constant fellowship with our creator who is holy and pure. Our spirit was made righteous and truly holy according to Ephesians 4:24 “And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.” It seems so simple once you have an understanding of who the real you is. Nearly all New Testament truths hinge on the fact that the reader has this knowledge already instilled in them at salvation. You need to remember that all of the New Testament was written to Christians. It was not written to GET a person saved, It was written to people ALREADY saved. This changes the perspective of many of the promises Additionally, you can now experience the truths through the instructions prescribed therein. Please stop here for a few moments and meditate the scriptures that seemed, at some point, contradictory to what you knew the New Birth should entail. This is what Jesus was talking about in the third chapter of the Gospel of John with Nicodemus. Look at that chapter again and you will see clearly that Jesus was making this distinction.

There is also another term used throughout the Bible called Heart. We need to define this as well. This is the part of us that nearly the entire Word of God is written to. Luke 6:45 tells us that both good and evil can come from here, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is evil: for of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaketh.” Therefore we must know that it cannot be the God re-created part. That part does not sin or produce evil according to 1 John 5:18 “We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.” This is obviously referring to the Spirit that is made perfect. Look at Romans 2:29 “But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.” This makes it very clear that the spirit of a man is in the heart. The truth is given to us in 1 Peter 3:4a “But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible,” This unveils an amazing truth. The Spirit of man is a part of the heart. The spirit man here is referred to as the “hidden man of the heart”. What is the other part? This is explained to us in James 4:8 among other places, “Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.” The “double” minds are the mind of Christ in your spirit (1 Corinthians 2:16, Philippians 2:5, etc) and your carnal mind (Romans 8:7, Romans 12:2, etc). These both are fighting for control of your whole being. This is the battlefield. This is why 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 says “For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds; Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ”. Paul says nearly the same thing again in Ephesians 6:12 “For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” The battle is in the heart of man and it is a spiritual battle taking place in our soul. This is the greatest and most important battle of our lives. The battle for supremacy and control of our actions and words. God has already been victorious through the blood of Jesus. Will you believe and act in that victory or continue to be downtrodden and weakened through your mind? Once you experience the peace of love of God in your mind the stupid Devil will never know what hit him. When you start to allow the “mind of Christ” to dominate you  THEN you will know what is meant by Ephesians 3:18-19 “(you) May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.” Our “fullness” level is contingent on the depths of the revelation of love that we have. Thank you Jesus for your great love!

Thank you for supporting our sponsors! They help us bring you the news.

This precious relationship with our God is operated by faith. “The Just shall live by faith” (Habakkuk 2:4, Hebrews 10:38, Galations 3:11 and Romans 1:17) Now we know that faith works by love (Galations 5:6). Based on this knowledge our faith with and towards God is only as strong as our love to Him and our understanding of love from Him. This is where many well intended believers get hung-up in their walk with the Lord. They truly believe that God loves them (Jesus’ death proves it) and they know they love Him (they confessed their allegiance to Him as Lord) but they have no boldness or confidence toward God. That is what is being talked about in Hebrews 4:16, 1 John 3:21, 1 John 4:17 and Ephesians 3:12. Let us look at these scriptures together:

Heb. 4:16 Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

1 John 3:21 Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

1 John 4:17  Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world.

Eph. 3:12 In whom we have boldness and access with confidence by the faith of him.

You must agree with me that what these scriptures are saying is we should have a bold and confident relationship and standing with our creator and Father. Do you? Be honest… Do you really feel as if you and God are “tight”? Do you know that God loves you, accepts you and actually enjoys the time you spend together? You should! This is the Gospel! This is what the blood of our savior was shed for. A true and living relationship with a true and living God! Sounds almost too good to be true when stated like this, right? That is what the word Gospel means to me, “Almost too good to be true news”!

Praise Jesus! We have a new and living way to approach our creator. We can boldly enter into his presence, with thanksgiving in our heart, and commune with Him in the same way a person experiences their friend. Jesus even refers to us in that context in John 15:15 “Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of my Father I have made known unto you.” We are friends with God! Say it out loud. Now say it again and again until it changes the image on the inside of you. When you clarify that image and line it up with the Word of God then you are just beginning to enter into what God has planned for you. Check this out in 1 Corinthians 2:9-10a “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit:” The mystery is gone. I am certain you have heard people say things like “Your never gonna know what God’s gonna do…” What a religious mess. God has huge, wonderful, glorious, loving and exciting plans for you and me! The only thing left to do is get moving! The amazing destiny that God has planned for you will not just happen. You have to live by faith and start operating in the promises of God to experience it. But God has even made provision for this by giving us HIS faith. Look at how that is stated in Galatians 2:20 “I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me.”

I believe that all of the excuses have been removed. The only reason now that would hinder any of my readers from entering directly into their divine destiny is choice. The choice is yours… divine destiny or conforming to the world. Life or death. Blessings or curses (Deuteronomy 30:19).

Only you can choose, beloved!

This teaching has obviously been written to Christians who have experienced the new birth. If you are not a Christian or have not experienced this new birth than please contact us. Nothing would bring us greater joy than the opportunity to pray with you and experience this new birth together with you.

Next month we will study what is meant by your eyes being blind. Jesus loved to say it so we need to understand it.
