Wilma Pauley

Wilma Pauley, age 90, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois passed away Friday, April 27, 2018 at the Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the Mt. Carroll Church of God. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday, May 5, 2018 at the Mt. Carroll Church of God. Memorials may be given in Wilma’s memory. Family and friends are invited to share in Wilma’s life at www.lawjonesfuneralhome.com. Wilma was born May 13, 1927, in Mt. Carroll, Illinois, the daughter of Glen and Mary (Zillhart) Edwards. She attended Lanark High School, graduating with the Class of 1945. On April 18, 1948, Wilma married Elmer Pauley. They celebrated 52 years of marriage until Elmer’s passing in 2000. Wilma was a gourmet and restaurant cook in the Mt. Carroll area for 37 years until retiring in 1989. She was a member of the Junior Women’s Club, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Mt. Carroll Church of God, and the Women’s Christian Service Club. Wilma loved serving her community by volunteering her time at the food pantry, and helping with mobile meals and food drives. In honor of veterans, she sold poppies every Memorial Day. Richard “Dick” D. Guenzler

Richard “Dick” D. Guenzler — January 1, 1936 – April 25, 2018 Richard “Dick” D. Guenzler age 82, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at home surrounded by his loving family. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, April 30, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, Illinois, with military rites accorded by the Savanna VFW Post 2223. A visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. prior to the Masonic Service at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Mississippi Lodge 385, the Disabled Veteran’s in Krebs, Oklahoma, or the family in Dick’s memory. Dick was the first baby born in Carroll County January 1, 1936, the son of Glen W. and Clarabell (Adams) Guenzler. He attended Mt. Carroll High School and graduated with the Class of 1954. Following high school, Dick began his life in service to others by enlisting in the United States Navy. Dick served on the Savanna Police Department until his retirement in 1993. He also worked in the barber trade for 52 years. He was a manager and instructor at three separate Barber Colleges. Wilbur Charles Nicol — October 03, 1920 – April 27, 2018 Wilbur Charles Nicol, 97, of Shannon, IL, died Friday, April 27, 2018 at Presence St. Joseph Center in Freeport, IL. Wilbur was born October 3, 1920 in Arenzville, IL, the eldest child of the late Albert and Ida Nicol. He graduated from Arenzville High School and attended 3 semesters at University of Illinois. He married Frances Wilson on December 8, 1940. She died on November 6, 1992. He later married Vivian Kromm on November 23, 1996. She died on October 29, 2014. Wilbur was drafted into the Navy during WWII. He had worked with his father in the Nicol Sand Co. at Arenzville and Savanna, IL, tried dairy farming for 6 years, then owned Shan Agra Service in Shannon for 35 years. Wilbur served as teacher and elder at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Freeport, IL. He was a longtime member of Shannon Lions Club and served on Village Board. He enjoyed baseball, golfing, petunias, and fishing.
