A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 31, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m., Friday, March 30, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. Memorials may be given to Shriners Hospital for Children-Chicago in Gayle’s memory. Gayle was born on May 19, 1926, the daughter of Leroy and Mabel (Brunner) Schubert in Pleasant Valley Township, Jo Daviess County. Gayle married Clarence A. Yenney on April 13, 1946 in Mt. Carroll. Clarence died on February 22, 1998 in Mt. Carroll. Gayle was a homemaker who cherished taking care of her family. She was a caring and compassionate person who enjoyed helping others. Gayle worked as a Nurse’s Aid and in the cafeteria at the Lincoln School, Savanna. She also babysat in her home and enjoyed the companionship of her dog, Fanci. Dennis was born January 6, 1946 in Freeport, Illinois, the son of Miles and Margaret (Derrer) Miller. He is a 1964 graduate of the Lanark High School. Dennis then received a teaching degree from McPherson College in Kansas. After graduation, Dennis taught in Milledgeville Schools for two years and worked on the family farm. He then found his passion in life, truck driving across country. Dale was born on April 20, 1946 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Benard and Dorothy (Sidesky) Schultz. He attended York High School in Elmhurst, Illinois. On June 22, 1978, Dale married Deborah Holst. They celebrated 39 years of marriage. Dale worked as a steel fabricator/pipefitter for most of life, finally retiring from ADM in Clinton, Iowa. During his retirement, Dale was a small business owner, he ran a small machine shop in Savanna, he also was a commercial fisherman. He loved to try everything and keep busy. Dale felt at home in the outdoors, fishing, hunting and camping. He enjoyed his pet rabbits, and working as an amateur blacksmith. Most of all Dale treasured the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. Opal M. Croffoot — January 26, 1915 – March 17, 2018 Opal M. Croffoot, 103, of Pearl City, IL, passed away on March 17, 2018 at Liberty Village Manor, where she resided for the past 4 years. She was born on January 26, 1915 in rural Pearl City, the only child of Samuel and Myrtle (Miche) Offenheiser. She attended local schools, and on March 1, 1933, she married Lawrence Croffoot. They farmed in the Pearl City and Loran area, and retired from the Croffoot family farm when it was sold to the Lake Carroll Subdivision. She then worked 12 years at Micro Switch, retiring from that job at age 65. She enjoyed working outside on the farm, and continued to garden until age 98. She loved to hand sew quilts, doing this into her 90’s. She was preceded in death by her husband, and leaves behind her only son, Robert (Joan) Croffoot; and two grandchildren, Randy Croffoot of St. Louis, and Susan Broocks of Freeport. Cara Lizabeth Prowant — 1956 – 2018 Cara Lizabeth Prowant (Aschenbrenner) passed away Sunday February 25th at her home surrounded by family and friends. Cara was born April 15th, 1956, to Conrad and Caralee Aschenbrenner. She said she loved growing up in a small town with a neighborhood of kids who were full of energy and imagination. She and her friends were Pirates, Cowboys and what ever else they could dream up and on hot summer nights meant a front yard game of kickball (and some skinned knees and black eyes). Among Cara’s favorite memories were her years at Lanark High School and being a Cheerleader for the “Fighting Beavers”. It was there that she met her future husband, Lonnie Prowant during her Junior year. Cara said she thought Lonnie was “pretty cute” and then asked him to the Prom, they married in 1977 and “the rest is history”. Cara attended Highland and Sauk Valley junior colleges where she studied Horticulture and floral arts, this knowledge added to her natural skill, turned them into the business of “Cara’s Flower Shed”. While in business she became well known for her arrangement and design skill, crating many memorable weddings.
